The fall of the house of Usher

Imagen
It is impossible to refuse the importance about Edgar Allan Poe in the literature and the actual pop culture. Maybe, my first read was “The Raven” because an episode on The Simpson. It’s funny to think that a comedian series was my introduction to gothic literature – a completely opposite genre, full of shadows and drama. After “The Raven” , I read short stories like “The black cat” and “The Tell-tale hearth”. These are good ones to read and probably they are both quite thought-provoking and will likely stay with you the rest of your life. However, in my opinion, the best story of the author is undoubtedly “The fall of the house of Usher”. The story its about an no named narrator who is going to visit an ill childhood friend Roderick Usher. Roderick’s twin sister Madeline is also ill with a unknown disease and Roderick – in his paranoia – believes that the house is sentient. All the events occur into the house and the story ends when the same house collapsing and crumbling down.

Postgraduate studies

I would like to be an investigator in the future but I'm not sure about which master - or doctorate - I prefer because I have many options and I can't decide! The topics who I like more are environmental health, genetics, biological anthropology, the archaeology of death and memory, and paleoecology. In the future, as I said in the past blog, I would like to study the master aboard in countries like France - because they have the original schools about social science in Europe and I really like this country-, Canada - because they have an interesting school in  environmental health -  or Latin American countries like México or Argentina - because they have the best universities in social science in Latin America- though also I would like study or work something in an oriental country because I don't know anything about the social science in this part of the world. Countries like Japan, China, India, and Mongolia sounds interesting, but I think the languages can be

My future Job

Traveling through the World has been my dream since I was a child. In that time, I wanted to be a paleontologist and travel around the World finding different species of dinos or another kind of extinct animal or plant. I think that I change the dinos for the cultures. In summary, I only change the time scale. I'm studying Archaeology and Biological anthropology  right now . I chose this career because I love it. I think it's the perfect discipline for me, the work in archaeology have much travel, I will never do the same thing! I have already worked in archaeological sites and I would like to carry on.  In the future, I would like to work in different archaeological sites, I would like to have a job gives me the opportunities to travel a lot and talk to new people with different cultures. I would love to work assembling the people with archaeology, I think it mostly depends on the archaeological discipline. Honestly, I don't think about the salary (I don't wa

Uncle's Tom cabin

It's difficult to choose only one book like my favorite. I chose Uncle Tom's cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe because this was the first book that made me cry. The book is an anti-slavery novel - wrote in 1852 - and helped to change the mind of the people about the slavery in U.S.A. It was written just before the Civil War in that country. Uncle Tom's cabin is about the story of uncle Tom ,   a kind slave who handed down for differents masters. All the books we can read about the evil and inmorality of slavery. I read this book for the first time when I was 10 years old with my parents. We read one chapter every night. We cried together. The book showed me many things that I never imagined happen in history.  I remember many parts of the story, but is not easy to find a particular quote. However, I think the book can resume in this quote: "Who can speak the blessedness of that first day of freedom? Is not the  sense  of liberty a higher and a finer one th

Los Vilos, the best place in the world

I have gone to many places in my life - I've had that luck -  only twice have I left chile , but one of those came to the Amazon !!  In spite of all that and the wonderful places that I have managed to know my favorite place and my best holidays are in Los Vilos.  I'm not sure I can say which of all my vacations in Los Vilos was better.  I go to town at least twice a year since I am 3 years old  and we stayed there between one week to three months . I have so many memories in that place!!  I almost always went with my parents when I was a little kid,  but lately, I've been with my partner, with my little brother, with my friends and even alone. Always go back to Los Vilos.  It may seem boring in relation to many adventures but I love the place for how quiet it is, I love to walk along the waterfront, go out to eat seafood in the morning, go inside to buy caramel with goat milk, and eat Churrascas in the late. My favorite experience will always be to ven

Darien

I've always liked to travel. Fortunately, I have been able to travel to many places, tough ever far away. In one of my travels, I went to the Amazonas rainforest, to the Peruvian part. In this trip, I fell in love with the jungle, the places, the animals and the plants. It's because of this who I'd like to visit, in the next travel maybe, Panamá. In Panamá exist a spectacular rainforest, named Darien, in there is one of the largest and most valuable protected areas in Centro America, the Darien National Park. In this place are many different exotic animals and plants. I would like to know everyone !! All the wildlife in this area is very fantastic.  But not all Darien is wildlife. In the Darien lives many ethnic (and not ethnic)   groups  with different cultures. I really would like to try all the foods, listen to all the music, see all the dances, know all the myths.  However, the Darien rainforest is not only a paradise but is also the most dangerous place in a
