The fall of the house of Usher
It is impossible to refuse the importance about Edgar Allan Poe in the literature and the actual pop culture. Maybe, my first read was “The Raven” because an episode on The Simpson. It’s funny to think that a comedian series was my introduction to gothic literature – a completely opposite genre, full of shadows and drama. After “The Raven” , I read short stories like “The black cat” and “The Tell-tale hearth”. These are good ones to read and probably they are both quite thought-provoking and will likely stay with you the rest of your life. However, in my opinion, the best story of the author is undoubtedly “The fall of the house of Usher”. The story its about an no named narrator who is going to visit an ill childhood friend Roderick Usher. Roderick’s twin sister Madeline is also ill with a unknown disease and Roderick – in his paranoia – believes that the house is sentient. All the events occur into the house and the story ends when the same house collapsing and crumbling down.
